Disney World can be expensive, but it doesn't have to break the bank! After 20+ years of visiting with my family, I've learned the insider secrets that can save you hundreds (or even thousands) of dollars. Here are my top 15 budget tips that actually work.
1. Stay at Flamingo Crossings Hotels
Save $200+ per night
Flamingo Crossings hotels offer Disney perks (Early Entry) at half the price of Disney resorts. We pay $120-150/night for spacious suites with kitchens and free breakfast.
Mom Tip: Book directly through the hotel website for the best rates, not third-party sites.
2. Use Your Hotel Kitchen
Having a kitchen in your hotel room is a game-changer for budget families. We stock up at Target and make breakfast and some meals in our room.
Our Kitchen Strategy:
- • Breakfast: Cereal, yogurt, fruit, and coffee in the room
- • Lunch: Pack sandwiches and snacks for the parks
- • Dinner: Mix of quick-service and room meals
- • Snacks: Buy in bulk at Target instead of park prices
3. Skip the Dining Plan
Save $50+ per person per day
The Disney Dining Plan rarely saves money for families. We spend less by eating strategically and using mobile ordering.
Exception: Free Dining Plan promotions can be worth it, but they're rare now.
4. Mobile Order Everything
Mobile ordering saves time and often money. You can see prices upfront and avoid impulse purchases.
Best Mobile Order Spots:
- • Satu'li Canteen (Animal Kingdom)
- • Flame Tree Barbecue (Animal Kingdom)
- • Ronto Roasters (Hollywood Studios)
- • Casey's Corner (Magic Kingdom)
Mobile Order Tips:
- • Order 30-60 minutes before you want to eat
- • Split meals to save money
- • Use rewards apps for additional savings
- • Avoid peak meal times (12-1 PM, 6-7 PM)
5. Buy Souvenirs Strategically
Save 50-70% on souvenirs
- •Target: Disney merchandise at 1/3 the park price
- •Character Warehouse: Outlet store near Universal
- •Amazon: Order ahead and bring with you
- •Walmart: Basic Disney items at great prices
6. Use Genie+ Strategically
Don't buy Genie+ for every day. We only use it on our busiest park days and focus on the most expensive Lightning Lanes.
Our Genie+ Strategy:
- • Day 1 (Magic Kingdom): Skip Genie+, use Early Entry
- • Day 2 (Hollywood Studios): Buy Genie+ for Rise of the Resistance
- • Day 3 (Animal Kingdom): Skip Genie+, rope drop Pandora
- • Only buy individual Lightning Lanes for must-do rides
7. Bring Your Own Water
Save $50+ on drinks
Disney charges $4-6 for bottled water. We bring refillable water bottles and use the free water fountains throughout the parks.
Pro Tip: Ask for free ice water at any quick-service restaurant.
8. Visit During Value Season
Disney has peak, regular, and value seasons. Visiting during value season can save you 30-50% on hotel rates.
Best Value Times:
- • January (after New Year's)
- • February (except Presidents' Day)
- • May (before Memorial Day)
- • September (after Labor Day)
- • November (before Thanksgiving)
Avoid These Times:
- • Christmas/New Year's
- • Spring Break (March-April)
- • Summer (June-August)
- • Thanksgiving week
- • Run Disney weekends
9. Use Credit Card Rewards
Save $500+ with rewards
Many credit cards offer travel rewards that can be used for Disney trips. We use our rewards for flights and sometimes hotel stays.
Our Strategy: Use a travel rewards card for all purchases and pay it off monthly.
10. Skip the Park Hopper
Park hopper tickets add $60+ per person per day. With young kids, we rarely have the energy to visit multiple parks in one day anyway.
